Welcome to our Annual Online Auction Fundraiser!

Western Heads East is a collaboration between Western staff, students, faculty and African partners using probiotic foods to contribute to health and sustainable development.

Largely through probiotic yogurt social enterprises, the program is established in highly underserviced areas of Sub-Saharan Africa in collaboration with local NGOs, universities and medical research institutes to enhance community health, economic development and the empowerment of women.

WHE Program holds promise and considerable benefits for all those involved, among which is promoting and increasing critical and ethical globalization of Western activities.

At Western, critical and ethical global engagement means that we acknowledge the reality of global inequality and that working towards ideals of justice requires that individuals take responsibility to learn about the social and historical forces that connect us to each other (Andreotti, 2012). Within this context, we engage in reflexive practice to critically examine our initiatives and partnerships so that we do not intentionally or inadvertently reproduce global inequalities or neglect the complex social justice, equity and power relations in global issues.

Annually, the Fundraising and Education Committee arranges an online auction to raise funds for expanding our current projects with our African partners, as proceeds support the Fiti probiotic foods program and social enterprise in Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda. You can be part of this change too by participating in our Annual Online Auction Fundraiser!
